HHC.EXE exited with error code 0

We have an SHFB project that takes more than two hours to generate reflection file applying XSLT. After that it fails while compiling the help file. Error is: "hhc.exe exited with code 0" and a popup message titled "HHC.EXE" saying "Fatal Error: System is out of memory". What could be wrong?

Also, is it normal to for that project to take two hours for first two steps? Note that it loads 71 assemblies for documentation, and the machine has 2.8 GHz Quad core CPU with 32 GB of memory. To speed up the process, I've set SdkLinkType parameters to "None".

Thanks,

As the error says, you're running out of memory.  Even though you've got 32GB, the help 1 compiler is still a 32-bit process so it can't make use of all that memory.  71 assemblies is a large number so it's not surprising it's taking so long to generate the reflection information and build the topics.  I'd say your only option to work around the out of memory error is to split the project into two or more so that you don't exceed the help compiler memory limitation.

If we split the project and produce multiple CHM files, is there a way to merge those into one?

The help file builder doesn't provide support for it but there are ways of doing it.  Do a search for "merge CHM" and it should turn up some options.
