General Information

IMPORTANT: On some systems, the content of the ZIP file is blocked and the installer may fail to run. Before extracting it, right click on the ZIP file, select Properties, and click on the Unblock button if it is present in the lower right corner of the General tab in the properties dialog.

This new release contains bug fixes and feature enhancements. There are some potential breaking changes in this release as some features of the Help File Builder have been moved into Sandcastle itself. See the release notes for details.

This release uses the Sandcastle Guided Installation package. Download and extract to a folder and then run SandcastleInstaller.exe to run the guided installation of Sandcastle, the various extra items, the Sandcastle Help File Builder core components, and the Visual Studio extension package.

This is just amazing. I just ran the installer and added a Visual Studio SHFB project to my solution and it just works. And because it's a VS project, integration in the build process was easy. Microsoft leaves us in the dark ages of documentation, but SHFB fills the gap brilliantly.

There was a little learning curve but now it's very use to use. Eric was very responsive to the one question I had and easily answered it. I wanted to know how the system collapses the sections. It turns out that that is only available when you select VS2005 in project properties -> help file -> presentation style. I love the system. Great work Eric!

Amazing setup! I don't think I have ever had an easier time integrating help file and site generation into my builds. From install to setup with my project everything was a sinch!

The Sandcastle Guided Installation package should be required reading for anyone putting together complicated installers. It worked perfectly. Thanks for your efforts. Nicely done! Ken

Thanks very much for putting this together and maintaining it. The Help File Builder UI is very useful and really helps a lot with this rather complicated process. My Help is an API reference with a bunch of linked Conceptual pages. I am really pleased with my result.

Worked great, made something boring and horrible fairly easy - loved it, thanks for maintaining and improving this utility! It's too bad Microsoft doesn't include this straight in Visual Studio. Thanks again!
