Why GUIDs for file names?

Oct 27, 2009 at 10:36 PM

Is there some way to force SHFB to use a file naming convention other than GUIDs? We have multiple documentation sets which refer to each other requiring predictable names.

Set the NamingMethod property to MemberName for user-friendly names.  See the help file for the information on how the names are formed.  FYI, "GUID" is a bit misleading in this case.  It's actually an MD5 hash in GUID format so the actual GUIDs are constant between builds.

I have NamingMethod set to MemberName, but I still get GUID file names for HTML content from Conceptual Content topics.  Is this supposed to work for Conceptual Content, too?

Conceptual content topics alway use GUIDs (true GUID values in this case).  There isn't an option to use friendly naming for them since internally Sandcastle uses the GUIDs for IDs and link targets for them.
