Old friend BE0071, but everything seems to be there.

I have just installed SHFB on a new Windows 8.1 PC, but when I try to build my project, I get this error:

SHFB: Error BE0071: Unable to locate information for the project framework version '.NET Framework 4.0' or a suitable redirected version on this system
at SandcastleBuilder.Utils.BuildEngine.BuildProcess.Build()

All of the required frameworks appear to be present at the correct location:

C:\Users\ed>dir %SystemRoot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\
Volume in drive C has no label.
Volume Serial Number is 06BD-D505

Directory of C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework

08/22/2013 10:36 AM <DIR> v1.1.4322
08/22/2013 10:36 AM <DIR> v2.0.50727
12/15/2014 04:35 AM <DIR> v4.0.30319

Some earlier posts mention a need to have VS installed (I do not) and that the framework files must be in ReferencedAssemblies (which I do not have), but C:\Program Files (x86)\EWSoftware\Sandcastle Help File Builder\Frameworks.xml seems to indicate that the frameworks are searched for in %SystemRoot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\ (where they are present).

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

SHFB uses the reference assemblies, not the ones in the runtime folder, for .NET 4.0 and later. The ones in the runtime folder do not include the framework comments. You can edit the Frameworks.xml file to look there but you won't get any comments for base class members. Install the appropriate reference assemblies using one of the targeting packs or copy the %ProgramFiles(x86)\Reference Assemblies folder from a PC that does have them. Targeting packs are available from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/dn250998.aspx
