Is 2.2GB normal size for website type output, if there are 71 assemblies to be documented? If not, what can be done to reduce size and also time required? (it takes 4 hours in total)

When CHM output type is used, it measures around 250MB only.

With 71 assemblies, you can expect the website size to be significant.  The website isn't compressed like a help file and it will also contain keyword index files which could be quite large given the number of topics that you probably have.  You can split the project up but it probably won't reduce the overall size or build time by much as you'll still have a combined set of files that is more or less the same.  By splitting it up though you could choose which parts to build rather than the entire set as a whole.
